Getting on a 125cc motorcycle with only a B license: that’s not a good plan. Arjan Everink, head of Traffic & Driver Training, explains why the KNMV sees nothing in this proposal from industry associations BOVAG and RAI: “If it’s so easy, why don’t motorists already report directly to the CBR and take an exam for about 200 euros?” Moreover, with only mandatory training, there is a risk that non-skilled people will still be allowed to ride motorcycles on the streets.
Therefore, the proposal by BOVAG and RAI to make only a short training course mandatory for the 125cc motorcycles cannot be supported by the KNMV. Everink: “How else do you want to prevent the A license from degenerating into an ‘attendance permit’ and allowing unskilled people to ride motorcycles on the streets? Testing according to certain standards will always remain necessary. In the Netherlands, motorcycle driving lessons are of a high standard and we can count ourselves as one of the safest countries. Please let’s keep it that way, because every victim is still one too many.”
