There is plenty of work for truck drivers, and it will not diminish in the coming years.
The truck
A truck, lorry or truck is a vehicle weighing more than 3,500 kg. To drive the vehicle, you need truck license C.

For an RV of the same weight, you also need driver’s license C.
Truck driving license = C driving license = truck driving license = C driving license = major driving license
A truck driver’s license is also called a “major driver’s license. But the license for a light truck (C1 driver’s license) or bus (D driver’s license) also fall under the heading of “major driving license.

The truck C license exists in two versions:

C driving license with code 95: for truck drivers
C driving license without code 95: for people who only use the truck privately

Code 95 is the same as professional competence. In special cases, exemption from Code 95 is possible.
Different truck, different driver’s license
In addition to driver’s license C, there are other licenses for trucks:

driving license CE: for a truck combination between 3,500 and 50,000 kg, where the trailer weighs more than 750 kg.
The CE driver’s license builds on the C driver’s license.
LHV certificate: for long heavy vehicles (LHV, max. 25.5 meters long).
The cerficate is an addition to driving license CE with code 95.
C1 driving license: for light trucks and most motor homes, weighing between 3500 and 7500 kg
C1E driving license: for a light truck combination of up to 12000 kg

What are you allowed to do with a truck C license?
With a truck license C, you may drive:

a truck over 3500 kg without a trailer
a truck with a trailer weighing up to 750 kg.
a motorhome over 3500 kg without a trailer
a light truck: you automatically get driving license C1 as well
A tractor: you automatically get driver’s license T as well

You are not allowed to drive a heavy truck combination with it. For that, you need driving license CE or C1E (lighter combinations).
Driving license CE builds on driving license C.
Get C driving license with code 95
To get your C driver’s license with Code 95, you must be at least 18 years old and have your B driver’s license.
If you are taking an MBO driver education course, you may be exempt from this.

As a future professional driver, you must take six exams for the truck driver’s license:

Theory exam RVM1-C: for this we have the truck theory course
Theory exam VM2-C: for this we have the truck theory course
Theory exam VM3-C: for this we have the truck theory course
practical exam C: part of the truck driving lessons package
practical test of professional competence: practical test
practical test of professional competence: confined terrain test

If you already have another truck driving license, for example C1 or C1E, you do not need to take all these exams.

A good result on the exams is not enough to apply for your driver’s license.
You must also fill out health statements and undergo a medical examination.
The medical examination for a large driver’s license is more stringent than that for other licenses.
Getting C driving license without code 95
If you want to drive a truck, but not professionally, you do not need Code 95.
For a truck C license without Code 95, you must be at least 21 years old and have your B driver’s license. So you must be older than for a C license with Code 95.

You only need to take these exams for driver’s license C without code 95:

Theory exam RVM1-C: for this we have the truck theory course
practical exam C: part of the truck driving lessons package

You must also undergo a medical examination for the C driving license without Code 95.
No medical examination is required for a Code 95 later credited to the C license.

Truck license renewal after 5 years
A C driver’s license is valid for 5 years at least if you do not develop an illness or disorder that affects driving ability.
Code 95 is also valid for 5 years.

After those 5 years, you must renew your driver’s license. You must then:

Have taken sufficient refresher courses (this is not necessary when extending the C driving license without Code 95)
submit another health certificate
undergo another medical examination

Advanced training code 95
Professional drivers are required to retrain, otherwise you cannot renew your Code 95.
You must have completed 35 hours of education, including 7 hours of practice. These hours may be spread over a period of 5 years.

Continuing education is paid for by your employer.

Code 95 courses are often taken partly at home(e-learning) and partly at the driving school. Truck-related courses such as digital tachograph or updating professional competence are also offered.
